Trash Stash: January 2017

first trash stash of 2017!

As you may recall, in my 2016 trash stash summary post, I expressed interest in trying to achieve 365 empties for 2017 (aka 1 empty per day). Let’s see how I did.

Cilt bakımı

Mèreadesso Lip Treats
Got this ages ago in a set from ebeauty.ca (the ill-fated online charm store from The shopping Channel). This lip balm was just ok – a rather thin texture that disappeared off the lips rapidly so I had to keep reapplying. all in all, this tube only lasted me about 3 weeks with daily use! I recently saw that Nordstrom carries this.

Body shop Vitamin E night cream – $22 for 50ml
I wanted so much to love this but I don’t. See my review on this. I managed to use about 1/3 of it before I called it quits.
Stash worthiness: 4/10     Repurchase: No

Physician’s formula Anti Aging Laser Resurfacing Serum – $21.95 for 30ml
This a lightweight gel serum that contains lactic acid as a gentle exfoliant, and it worked really well to leave my skin soft and radiant. This is my second bottle and it made a favourites list. Rexall used to sell this but not anymore – and I can’t find it on Physician’s Formula’s site so I suspect it’s discontinued now. Tipik!
Stash worthiness: 9/10     Repurchase: No

Biotherm Biocils Lash Optimizer – $31 for 125ml
This is my preferred eye makeup remover. It is effective in removing all traces of waterproof makeup, and it does not leave a greasy film on my skin, or cause blurry vision. I’ve tried lots of bi-phase type of eye makeup removers and this is the best one I’ve found so far. The only gripe I have is the packaging – the cap is a bit leaky so when I shake up the liquid to mix the 2 phases, the product spills out a little. Thankfully, it appears that Biotherm has revised the bottle so I’m hoping the new version resolves this issue.
Stash worthiness: 9/10     Repurchase: Yes

Leaders Insolution wrinkle Filler Sheet Mask – $7
I’d heard so much hype about this brand of sheet masks and it’s always out of stock. I finally got my hands on this and I should say, it’s fantastic. It’s one of the best fitting masks I’ve tried – it molds to my face really well and all of the holes are at the best places. now having tried the Etude house one though, I do find this mask to be a bit on the thick side. And, this cost me $7 whereas the Etude house one is only $2.
Stash worthiness: 9/10     Repurchase: Maybe

Beyond Nature garden Nourishing by Natto Sheet Mask – $1
This is a very basic sheet mask – the paper is not as soft as others on the market and the serum content is at minimal level.  The fit is also just passable; the mouth hole is too low and large for my face. It does have a enjoyable soft scent like a pocket tissue pack.  I didn’t love this mask but the natto serum did make my skin feel really soft, even the following morning. I’ll look for other skincare with natto in it now. If you’re searching for something inexpensive, this one is a good option.
Stash worthiness: 7/10     Repurchase: No

Sunwoo Cosme Q10 Syn-Ake Venom Sheet Mask – $2
Fun packaging but a fairly standard mask inside. The mouth hole was a bit high for my face. The paper feels slightly thicker than other masks I’ve used, and the serum was just the best amount and wasn’t overly scented. I didn’t see any visible improvement to my face – it didn’t feel necessarily much more hydrated, softer, nadda.
Stash worthiness: 5/10     Repurchase: No

Tony Moly I’m real Makgeolli Sheet Mask – $6
My first Tony Moly sheet mask! After I read Rachael’s review of this, I went into my sheet mask stash and found this there! I had won a couple of Tony Moly sheet masks, but I didn’t realize it was this particular kind. It’s an ok mask  – the face holes are well aligned to my face, although the length of the mask is a bit too short on my large forehead. The serum is a milky consistency and smells perfume-y which I wasn’t a fan of. It’s a purifying mask and I did find it helped a bit with redness and small bumps on my forehead, but nothing dramatic.

Vücut bakımı

Biotherm Lait Corporel Body Milk – $30 for 400ml
On my favourites list from last quarter. It smells like grapefruit and glides on my skin like silk. I just wish it wasn’t so pricey or else I’d indulge much more often, same with the corresponding body butter.
Stash worthiness: 9/10     Repurchase: Yes

Sukin Botanical Body wash – $8 for 250ml
I’ve delighted in every Sukin product that I’ve tried so far but this body wash is terrible! It’s watery and doesn’t lather and smells like waterlogged radishes. thank goodness I got this for 50% off.
Stash worthiness: 2/10     Repurchase: No

Consonant Skincare Skin Perfecting Body Scrub – $30 for 275g
I had to lay off using body scrubs for a while due to the rashes and skin biopsy on my legs. but now they’ve healed and have left hyperpigmentation, I’ve been diligently using both my Salux cloth as well as manual scrubs toexfoliate my legs to help improve the skin tone.

This one is quite good and grainy – a mixture of salt and sugar granules – it also include coconut and olive oils which coats my skin even after rinsing off. It is unscented which might be a good option for those who are sensitive to fragrance. I personally choose something that smells good for the bath. This is also a bit pricey for a scrub – I used it about 3 times a week and this tub lasted me about 3 weeks.

TRESemmé 4+4 extra Hold Hairspray – C$8 for 311g
My go-to trusty hairspray. I’m going to make a point to try other hairsprays to see if I find anything better.
Stash worthiness: 9/10     Repurchase: Yes

Herbal Essences Smooth Collection Shampoo – $8 for 400ml
This is a really good shampoo that cleans my hair without stripping it. and it smells like an orgasmic fresh bouquet!
Stash worthiness: 8/10     Repurchase: Yes

Curl Keeper – $17 for 250ml
I should empty at least 6 of these a year. It’s a staple but I in some cases try different things out of curiosity. I have yet to find a worthy replacement though!
Stash worthiness: 10/10     Repurchase: Yes

Creation garden Argan Oil from Morocco – $26 for 120ml
Once upon a time I used to put pure argan oil on my face. There’s fundamentally nothing wrong with that – it’s really soothing and offers great moisture. but now that I’ve tried other facial oils (like this and this), I don’t think I can go back to this any time soon. I ended up using this up in my hair.
Stash worthiness: 8/10     Repurchase: Maybe

Aletler

Delon+ premium Cotton Rounds – approx $1.60 for 100 count
A staple from Costco. I like using this to apply toner.
Stash worthiness: 9/10     Repurchase: Yes

Yves Rocher Cotton Pads – $2 for 80 count
These are really good facial cottons. I pick them up occasionally when I feel like a change. They’re soft and cushion-y and inexpensive. The downside is that they are small in size and can be slightly linty. Interestingly, these are made in France.
Stash worthiness: 8/10     Repurchase: Yes

MAC pro performance Sponge – $24
I wasn’t sure if I ought to include this in an empties or in a declutter post but because this will be trashed, I chose to include it here. I purchased this sponge to test out because it had good reviews online. I didn’t care for it – the texture got progressively firmer with use and I didn’t find it blended out foundation that well. I compared this against other charm Blender type sponge in this post. I wonder if this can be used for Back to MAC?
Stash worthiness: 5/10     Repurchase: No

Vincent Longo Water Canvas foundation in #4 Soft Amber – $63 for 11.5g
I did a comprehensive review of this and it’s noted as one of my best finds from 2016.

It’s about 90% finished but toward the very end, the foundation dried out to the point where it was no longer usable. The case is refillable but sadly, Hudson’s Bay recently got rid of the Vincent Longo counter so it’ll be much more difficult, not to mention expensive, for me to replace it.
Stash worthiness: 9/10     Repurchase: Maybe

The Body shop Fresh nude foundation in 020 Bali Vanilla – $25 for 30ml
I finished another foundation! One aspect of these trash Stash posts is to help identify how long products lasts for me. and because this was part of my project Pan, I can estimate that this bottle lasted me around 4 months with regular use (1½ pumps per use). This is a good everyday foundation with a natural coverage.
Stash worthiness: 8/10     Repurchase: Yes

GOSH Xtreme Mascara – $16 for 10ml
I picked this up on clearance for half off – I’d typically not pay this much for a mascara, let alone a drugstore one. This was quite good – it delivered on both volume and length.

I used this tube for 2 months and the formula peaked at around the one month mark – it got progressively clumpier after that. It is also quite a heavy formula so it did droop my lashes a bit. It was also a smidgen smudgy.
Stash worthiness: 7/10     Repurchase: Maybe

CoverGirl LashBlast fusion in Blue – $11 for 13.1ml
I’ve use this before in black but I purchased this in the blue colour because it was on clearance for $2 and I was curious about coloured mascaras. This looked strange on me. I have no issue with the formula – it offers good volume and length and it doesn’t clump. I’d not use this in the blue again but I would certainly get it in black.
Stash worthiness: 5/10     Repurchase: No

Etude house Dr. Mascara Fixer volume Up curl fix – $7 for 6ml
My HG mascara primer. It helps my lashes hold a curl and it keeps my mascaras from smudging. It’s also inexpensive – I actually found a less expensive source for this, it used to cost me $9 but now only $7!
Stash worthiness: 10/10     Repurchase: Yes

Lancome eye liner in chocolate Affair
I implied to toss this after the end of my project pan back in November but I hung onto it for a bit longer (I really like this liner and it was limited edition!) but nowit really is time to toss because the lead just falls best out of the casing. *iç çekmek*

Sample / travel Size

Caudalie VinoSource S.O.S. Thirst Quenching Serum – I’ve owned the full size of this serum and I liked it well enough. It’s a lightweight hydrating serum that I would consider repurchasing.

Vichy Neovadiol Gf Densifying care – this is a silicone-y serum that I used like a primer under makeup and I liked it, surprisingly. Not sure I’d purchase the full size though – it’s quite fragranced.

Dermalogica C-12 Concentrate – another silicone-y serum that worked like a primer. It didn’t do much for my skin but the sample was enough for 3 uses so I wasn’t expecting major results.

Shiseido Bio-Performance advanced very Revitalizing cream – I brought this gwp size with me when I went to the in-laws over the holidays. It’s my preferred winter season nighttime cream, and now I’m using the full size of it.

Farmacy rise ‘n shine – I redeemed 100pts at Sephora for this and was very psyched to try it – what a disappointment! This thing pills awfully no matter how little I use or how thoroughly I spread it on my skin (lots of reviews on Sephora had the same complaint). It’s expected to be for daytime but there is no way I can wear this under makeup. I tried it at nighttime a few times but it still balled up. I couldn’t even finish this sample.

REN Resurfacing AHA Concentrate – this came in a kit and it’s a similar concept to the Paula’s choice resist weekly Resurfacing AHA Treatment. It’s a liquid toner type of product that I apply after cleansing and before other products. I found the Paula’s choice to be much more effective, and it’s also cheaper.

Antipodes Apostle Skin-Brightening & Tone-Correcting Serum – I evaluated this and did not care for it. I used as much as I could before deciding it wasn’t worth my time!

Consonant Skincare HydrExtreme – I loved this! It’s a watery serum that sinks in and really plumps up my skin and smooths fine lines. I especially liked using this under my eyes because it didn’t add any texture to the skin and it made my concealer look very smooth. This sample lasted me practically a whole month and I have another sample vial that I’m currently using. Then I plan to get the full size – I have a bunch of points saved up at the Consonant store so I will redeem them towards this.

Diorshow renowned Overcurl Mascara – it’s a good mascara but nothing groundbreaking. It gives good definition, good length but not much volume. and it does hold a curl. I don’t typically choose mascara with curved wands – they don’t apply mascara any better than straight ones, in my experience. The full size of this sells for C$37 and I would not purchase it considering I can get the same or better results from a drugstore brand.

Skin79 The Prestige Beblesh Balm SPF25 PA++ – Isn’t this so cute? It’s a little keychain deluxe sample. I’ve not used a Korean BB cream in a while and now I wonder why. this one is hydrating and keeps my skin looking supple all day. It has a light coverage but covers enough of redness that I can wear this as an everyday foundation. I love Skin79’s very plus Beblesh Balm Triple functions SPF30 PA++ (aka “HOT PINK”) and now I will consider purchasing the full size of this version.

Consonant Skincare Intensive therapy organic Hand cream – one of my preferred hand creams because it works at keeping my hands protected through multiple washing.

L’Occitane Shea Ultra rich Body cream – I love the smell of L’Occitane’s shea products and this is a good cream but I wouldn’t consider it “ultra rich”. This absorbed into the skin well but I didn’t feel it lasted that wel
